March 2020 Update: AT LAST, LAYOUT!
about 4 years ago – Fri, Feb 21, 2020 at 11:57:03 PM

Hi, God Hunters! I've got great news this time!

Kamigakari: God Hunters is officially in the final stage of production, layout design!

So if you're not familiar with how RPGs get made, Layout is the final stage where the text is 100% complete, the art is all available (not that we had any artists, just sourcing art from the Japanese version like we did), and all that's left is for our layout designer, Todd, to assemble the text and art into, you know, a sequence of pages. No update on the printer, but I can tell you that the next couple waves of refunds are on the way!

Thank you for sticking with us the rest of the way. I know I've made dire mistakes, but it's my sincere wish that we can move on from them and enjoy this awesome game when it comes out this Summer. If anyone still feels wronged in a way that I can help other than through refunds, please don't hesitate to contact me at [email protected] so I can do my best to make it right for you.

Home stretch now!

February 2020 Update: Refunds and Release Window
over 4 years ago – Mon, Jan 27, 2020 at 10:03:51 PM

Happy new year, God Hunters. You might have noticed there wasn't an update last month. There just hasn't been a lot to talk about. I promised a little essay about the editing process, but between getting the actual work done with the free time we have, and how little any of us had to say about it, there wasn't anything particularly interesting to write. Moving on to actual news, then:

Kamigakari Core Rulebook Progress Update

Editing is nearly through. There are a couple dozen pages remaining but the mid-February deadline is still on track. Todd is ready and waiting for the layout design phase. The current expected release window is still mid-summer, more likely July than June.

Refund Status

At the moment, $925 of refunds have been issued. There are more coming: Our original plan was to have four monthly waves of about $1,100. Due to conflict between Stripe and our bank, the rest of the refunds will be issued in smaller waves every couple weeks instead of huge chunks. We're still on target for all refunds being issued by the end of April.

Remember, February 1 is the cutoff date for refund requests! We can't give you one if you don't request it by then! As we said before, the method for requesting a refund is by emailing [email protected] with the subject "Refund Request" and providing your Kickstarter e-mail address in the body.

December Progress Update
over 4 years ago – Sat, Nov 30, 2019 at 01:17:06 AM

Happy winter, God Hunters! Lots to talk about this month.

Kamigakari Core Rulebook Progress Update

First, if you didn't notice,  we now have a mid-editing draft of Kamigakari: God Hunters.  Unfortunately, the sample scenario is still not included. Instead, let's talk about the next version of the game, the final release! Which will include the sample scenario. Obviously.

The current plan is to have the PDF out in early Summer of 2020, with the book following in Winter. Please do not take this as a concrete date, but I'll try to keep everyone updated. Allow me to walk you through how I've come to that date, in the hopes of reassuring everyone that this deadline will stick.

  • We are currently editing the book, which involves proofreading, ensuring a cohesive tone throughout the book, and catching any confusing or contradictory rules for rewriting. This will be completed by the second half of February. I do not anticipate a post-editing Early Access document being released, but we'll see.
  • Following that, there will be a Layout phase, where the art, page backgrounds, and most importantly the final text are all assembled and placed into a master file, from which the PDF and Print-On-Demand copies of the book will be created. Layout should be finished by the end of April. Ideally there'll be a PDF sometime in the first half of May, but I want wiggle room in case something catches fire. Again.
  • From there, it'll be in the hands of the new printer (TBD) who will need to first provide myself and Todd with proofs, prototypes of the final book for us to look over and make corrections in. The next step will be printing the corrected books and sending them to our fulfillment pals at IndiePressRevolution, who will send all your rewards along to your doorstep! This takes a few months from the completion of the layout design.

We've Got Spirit, Yes We Do!

Over the past couple weeks, there has been heated discussion over the Numen trait's name. This name was settled on after deciding that the Japanese name, which translates to "spirit," would be confusing or just annoying, since fifty-eleven different things all use "spirit" as an adjective. Thus, numen, which means "divinity." It has been quite rightly pointed out that there has been no confusion for the various uses of "spirit" throughout the fan translation, and that the word numen doesn't really suit Kamigakari's super-chuuni aesthetic. As such, it will be reverted to Spirit for the final version of Kamigakari: God Hunters.

Refunds

Quite rightly, a lot of you would like to wash your hands of this whole nonsense and just get your money back. We've been taking refund orders over e-mail and have determined that as of this update, there are going to be 68 refunds, for a total of $4,359 and an average refund of $64.10. There will be four waves of refunds of roughly $1100, one each month, beginning at the end of December. The cut-off date for pre-order refunds will be February 1. As soon as I know for sure, there will be another update laying out details.

Have a happy rest-of-the-year!
