2020...Won?
over 3 years ago – Wed, Jan 06, 2021 at 10:33:02 PM

Hey, God Hunters. Deanna here.

People asked for an update, and I've been a little lax on it. Moreover, I'm pretty sure this one isn't going to be spectacular news. But here we go.

We've been working on the print revisions. We've gotten proofs, and some of the issues were easy to correct (misplaced images). Others weren't. (Our original offset printer was going to be able to accommodate for a specific page size. Less so now, so I literally have had to relay out the book to adjust for the altered paper size (don't worry, that's all done). Still some issues with some black ink saturation on a few pages (character sheet in specific) that are being problematic.

This hasn't been helped by the fact that reviewing this has needed Amy and I to be able to real-time conference it, and she had a bug in the late part of the year. But to be 100 percent honest, the real reason there wasn't a ton of progress in the last month was me.

*takes a deep breath*

On November 9th, 2020, my father passed away. He succumbed to a long battle with dementia and Alzheimer's Disease. I can't tell you how hard it is watching a loved one die by inches. I hope none of you ever have to go through it.

But, my November and my December were filled up with traveling states for a funeral. Processing my dad's will. Helping out my mother, who was all alone and for the first time in her life, with a negative bank balance after the funeral expenses.

Needless to say, Kamigakari took a back seat.

Please understand, this is ENTIRELY on me. This is not Serpent Sea Games, this is not Amy, none of that. It's just that the process is at a place where virtually all the work is on the layout designer, and well...the layout designer had her life fall apart.

I'm trying to get back on top of it. I truly am. I also know I haven't had a night without nightmares since November 10th. I know I'll be sitting there trying to work, and the magnitude of the whole thing hits me and I burst into tears. Some days are better than others. But all the days are bad right now.

I'm posting this in the interest of transparency...and maybe a little bit in the interest of therapy. We haven't forgotten you. We're still working on the books. The process is still happening. I just...have to find a way to put myself back together in order to start moving forward again.

Sincerely yours, and trying really hard every day not to bottom out on her crest recovery test,

Deanna

November 2020 Update
over 3 years ago – Sun, Nov 29, 2020 at 11:48:09 PM

Happy holidays, God Hunters.

Ewen and I have begun talking about how to tackle Expansion 1. There's nothing to report and probably won't be for a few months, so this is just a re-confirmation that it's going to happen.

The first print-on-demand proofs have arrived, and we're not done working on them yet, but progress proceeds apace. I feel good about saying we'll have them for sale on DriveThruRPG by Spring.

See you next month,

Amy

October 2020 Update
over 3 years ago – Tue, Oct 27, 2020 at 08:19:08 PM

Hi, God Hunters. No festive greeting this time.

Rikizou, the lead designer of Kamigakari: God Hunters, passed away on October 18 at 9:03 PM of complications relating to pancreatic cancer. He was 41 years old. Our thoughts are with his friends and family.

That is all.

2020 -- The Year of the Aramitama
over 3 years ago – Fri, Sep 25, 2020 at 09:03:13 PM

Hey there, God Hunters! Deanna here. I'd hoped to be able to hop in here with a bunch of great new updates for you.

Buuuuut this is 2020, and this year seems intent on ruining everything for everyone as often as possible. First, it was a computer disaster that wiped out three of our master file repositories of Kamigakari (thankfully, I'm paranoid about backups; I keep five, in different locations.) Then, it turns out that in between last update and this one, your Project Manager (that'd be me) got diagnosed with a blood disorder that wrecked me pretty solidly. Thankfully, the docs have me on some new medication now, and things SEEM to be improving, but spending nearly a month in bed with only a few hours a day awake didn't do anything on the "actually making progress front".

Then, JUST as I was improving (and I do mean JUST...I finally got new meds last Friday) and starting to make some forward momentum again, our Lady-in-Charge Amy came down sick. While I'm not going to go into the details out of respect for her privacy, it's serious business. She's sidelined right now, and while she's handled getting the important info over to the rest of the team here at Serpent Sea, needless to say, this isn't exactly making things go well either.

First Rikizou (the original Japanese creator), then myself, then Amy...this year's been crazy rough if you were working on Kamigakari! (Been rough on everyone, really...but it is a weird coincidence that so many Kamigakari creators/developers/staff have come down with hospital-level badness in the same year).

BUT! You guys are here for the productive news, not the bad stuff. The good news is that despite all this badness, progress is rolling. We're still working on the print versions of Kamigakari, as well as layout efforts for the expansions. I'm not going to drop any "oh, it'll be done by X" dates in here...partly because I don't know when Amy'll be off the sidelines, and partly because this year seems intent on throwing every obstacle it can our way.

Wish I had something more conclusive to throw at you for this update, but just know that we're powering up to blast through this trouble in our way, just like this God Hunter from our first expansion, below!

Time To Level Up!
almost 4 years ago – Sat, Aug 15, 2020 at 01:30:41 PM

Hey there, God Hunters! Deanna here. I told you all you'd hear from me on Friday, and here I am! I am THRILLED to announce the release of Kamigakari version 1.1, which we can charitably call the "after squishing all the errata" version.

So! Let's go ahead and cover all the things that you've expressed interest in!

A) Backers should have an email, either now, or before the end of the day, with a DTRPG link for Kamigakari, so you can all add it to your libraries.

B) The new version is there, and so is the new character sheet. Download both and enjoy!

C) We've also included the file for "Digital Prayer", the Kamigakari theme song that we used for the Kickstarter, by J.A. Aczel. Enjoy the tune, and if you want more in the same vein, feel free to check out J.A.'s Soundcloud at https://soundcloud.com/opal-two.

D) All these emails can take a while to get out there. If you don't have one by noon EST tomorrow, let us know at [email protected] and we'll get you sorted out. Obviously, this only applies if you actually backed for a PDF copy.

If there's anything else, let us know! As for me, I'm going to take a well-earned weekend, and then jump in on getting the PoD copy ready to get out there to the world, and the offset print copy.
